What the Terms of Service actually say

Terms of Use — Section (e)(iii)

You will not use the Services to post, transmit, make available, submit or otherwise communicate any Content that: (iii) contains nudity, illegal pornography, excessive violence, or offensive subject matter or contains a link to an adult website

Nudity is banned outright, and linking to any adult website is explicitly prohibited. Sharing escort ad links, OnlyFans, or adult portfolio sites through TextNow violates their TOS.

Terms of Use — Section (e)(vi)

You will not use the Services to post, transmit... any Content that: (vi) constitutes "spam", advertising, marketing or promotion of commercial services or products and/or attempts to fundraise or solicit money

Using TextNow to advertise or promote escort services — even one-on-one — counts as commercial solicitation and violates the TOS.

Our analysis

TextNow offers free phone numbers and texting, making it attractive for escorts who want a separate work number. However, their TOS explicitly bans nudity, links to adult websites, and commercial solicitation — all of which are central to escort communications. The ban on "advertising, marketing or promotion of commercial services" is particularly broad: even discussing rates or availability with a client could be interpreted as commercial solicitation. TextNow also explicitly states they cooperate with law enforcement subpoenas and share data through "proper legal channels." Their privacy policy confirms they collect device identifiers, and while they state they won't share personal information without consent, legal requests are exempt. For escorts, the combination of strict content rules, commercial use restrictions, and law enforcement cooperation makes TextNow unsuitable as a work phone. A dedicated VoIP service or prepaid SIM with a privacy-respecting carrier is significantly safer.
